I have a crazy week this week, who knew starting a craft business and being a full time mum/general skivvy would be so much hard work! not only do I have two very different craft fairs coming up, which I'm trying to taylor my stock to but I also will be running the Dartmouth Craft Fair on Aug 4th! its a never ending stream of sewing at the minute, throw in the fact that my son has decided 4am is a perfectly reasonable time to wake up and you end up with one exhausted lady! Iv have for the first time in my life bought a diary, seeing as all the little notes I leave myself dotted around the house were not really doing the job, and my house now looks like a fabric explosion hit it, with bits of thread, cotton, remnants of old fabric and a hell of a lot of pins scattered around my once tidy bedroom.its just about enough for me to look for a 'proper' job with a boss and set wages and a routine!
You can find me at the following Craft events this month-
Saturday 23rd June
COUP! Hysteria, 578 Kingsland Road, Dalston E8 (8pm-3am)
Saturday 30th June
St Vincents school, the ridgeway, mill hill NW7 (11.30 onwards)
Hi Sinead, just swining by to say hi! hope your crafting is keeping you busy- I've been out to pick up some stock this morning, still trying to build some stuff on webpages but its very time consuming. I've not given much thought to shows/events yet, do yours generally do well? Im not really the selling type per se'- and the events would fill me with dread primairly because of my confidence in that area! Im quite happy to show-case my work for now and drive it to my etsy shop once I get it up and running. Just really time consuming. Im planning on going to a craft fair at the NEC at some point in the near future; there is one in Novemeber- just in time for christmas stock and goodies ;) x Perrie@DaftDesigns
ReplyDeletehi, thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteyes truth be told craft fairs can be scary! I spent months going to local ones trying to see if my stuff would fit with what other people did, and working up the courage to ask to do one, my first ever one was only a few months ago and it was the best thing I ever did, theres no competition between stall holders, people are usually very supportive of what you do and offer all kinds of advice, it was at my first craft fair I even considered a facebook business page and that was only because so many traders told me to do one! I find craft fairs can be hit or miss, sometimes the weather is bad and people look but done buy and other times I sell out, but by far and away the best part is giving out business cards/flyers and getting people to like my blog of facebook page, this means they will always know what Im up to and I have had loads of business this way....
sounds like you have a solid base to start, and selling face to face is not for everyone, I find the more personal I treat my business the better it does, so being honest in my blog, or being flexible with designs goes a long way.
good luck with everything, I so please so amny people are getting creative and boosting the craft industry!
