tough day at the office

goodbye summer, it was lovely while it lasted (all of a week!) So I'm one craft fair down, two more to go, I worked my fingers to the bone sewing all week, only to sit all day with the other traders, waiting for customers that never came...oh sure we had people through the door, but most of them where men with too much hair gel in their 'ironic 1950's quiff, skinny jeans and ray ban sunnies in a jazzy colour, who seriously would never buy one of my products in a million years! was it the wrong location for a craft fair, Id say!, off in the back streets of Borough, where no one would walk past it, was it the wrong day, well I didn't think so until I got there, first day of the Olympics, central London, decent weather,TFL telling us how crazy busy central London would be and how we Londoners shouldnt be using the tube/buses/travelling at all, their message has worked a treat, tube was empty at 9am, Borough market, I sauntered through with a massive suitcase of stock with ease...it was a tough day, I made £6! and I was one of the better ones, at least I sold something!.  Disappointing and demoralising, all that effort for £6! but its a lesson learnt, choose your craft fairs wisely, be picky, and most of all just chalk it up as 'one of those days'.

The Big Ellie give away!

Hi,
So I never normally pay attention to how many people have viewed my blog, I think I still live in a blog bubble where I assume no one reads it, anyway I was very pleasantly surprised to see Im inching every closer to 1500 views, not bad seeing as Im making the blogging thing up as a I go along!
To celebrate the fact that so many people have bothered to find me in the big bad blogging world, and that Im still enjoying it, Im going to give away a baby Ellie, made in a fabric of the winners choice, to the most interesting comment left under this post assuming anyone comments that is! ;-)

Mondays...blughhhhh!!

Well Good afternoon to a soggy and miserable me! I'm typically British when it comes to the weather and seem to mention it every 5mins at the moment, but seriously, its JULY! we get 3 months if we are really really lucky to wear summer clothes, I have a cupboard FULL of maxi dresses, blouses, Capri pants and several pairs of flip flops and sandals, yet today I realised I was wearing my winter jacket!!enough all ready, mother nature I promise I will never ever pay attention to a hose pipe ban again!
So anyways, back to blogging, Iv been pretty slack to say the least, and find I read more blogs then write them....so here's a few little things to pass the time until I can really showcase some new stuff..

Iv become a bit of a pattern freak, all this talk of quilting and I seem to always be able to convince myself into buying yet more fabric, however, this time I swear I will make good use of it, so Iv started on one baby Ellie and playing around with a soft toy owl too, as you can probably tell my photography skills are severally lacking, that's what you get for leaving you camera charger in China and trying to make do with your phones camera! hopefully by next week I will be back to taking terrible pictures with a normal camera instead. ;-)

also, I have decided since I'm reading a whole library's worth of craft books I thought I would list the ones I really love every Monday..so here's the first batch.....

1. Everything Alice http://www.everythingalice.co.uk/

2. The Busy Girls Guide to sewing http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Busy-Girls-Guide-Sewing/dp/0715338684

Oh my DIY!

hello,
so putting my crafting to one side for a minute, Iv been looking at ways of furnishing my home without spending any money! Im renting, and Iv always felt like I don't want to do to much to a place that's not really my own as you will have to take it all down when you move anyway, so I usually stretch to a few pictures on the walls, a colourful bedspread and some shelving. However since I have a toddler to spend money on and a business to invest in I have set myself the challenge of DIY on a none budget! my inspiration is from  http://pinterest.com/Recyclart/1001-pallets/ and I aim to make a bed base, garden furniture AND if I am really careful a play house for Finn! but first Il try a book shelf, turns out pallets are everywhere, dumped on the street, left in skips, its a recyclers dream. so wish me luck, this could be awesome or a massive disaster...now how to I use a saw again??!

the past week.....

Firstly a big thank you to all the new readers,Iv seen a big jump in views to my blog the past few weeks, so thats fantastic!
Iv had a few crazy days in the past week, toilet training my son and enrolling him in nursery would be top of the list! both where stressful but in the end it seems to work out, and yesterday I had what can only be described as an 'eventful' craft fair....I should have realised when we were given open air stalls on the top of a hill that this would be a challenge, or when I noticed the person next to me was flogging second hand toys for £1 that maybe this one would be a little different to my usual fair and I might have to work a damn sight harder for a sale....it really started getting a bit stressful when a gale force hurricane dropped by while I was setting up and whipped half my stock away! then proceeded to do so every few minutes for the rest of the day, or the fact that despite the wind i managed to get incredibley sunburnt and am slowing turning a lovely shade of beetroot....despite all this and more I had a a good time, and knowing me i would do it all again, now its a small breakfrom crafting elephants and owls and knuckling down to finish my quilt.....
